IBPS PO 2024 : IBPS PO (Probationary Officers) 2024 Exam will be conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) to select eligible candidates for the post of Probationary Officers in different public sector banks in India. IBPS PO exam is conducted every year since 2011 and is now happening in 2024 in its 14th edition. The IBPS CRP PO/MT CRP-XII (PO) 2024 is for the selection of candidates for the 11 public sector banks.

IBPS provides its services to all Public-Sector Banks (PNB, BOB, etc.), SBI, RBI, NABARD, SIDBI, LIC & Insurance companies and other Banks which are regular members of the IBPS society. In 2011, IBPS started the Common Recruitment Process (CRP) for recruiting officers and clerks in Indian Bank and accepts online applications through its official website. What is IBPS PO?

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Probationary Officers or IBPS PO exam is conducted every year for recruitment to the post of Probationary Officer/Management Trainee (PO/MT) in 11 Public Sector Banks in India. IBPS CRP PO/MT exam comprises the preliminary exam, mains exam, and interview. In 20203, a total of 6.70 lakh approx candidates had registered for the exam, out of this, 4.61 lakh candidates had appeared.

IBPS PO 2024 Online Application

The online registration procedure for IBPS PO 2024 exam will be conducted through online mode on ibps.in. The registration dates will be announced along with the release of the IBPS PO 2024 Notification.

All Eligible and interested Candidates are required to register online for the recruitment process on the official IBPS website, IBPS Upon the submission of duly filled application form with the required fee, uploading of signature, photographs,IBPS PO Handwritten Declaration, and documents the application process is said to be completed. The 3-tiered selection process consists of Preliminary and Main Exams which will be conducted online, followed by Interviews. Candidates must pass each exam to get shortlisted and progress to the next stage. The final selection will be based on Mains and Interview merit.

IBPS PO Eligibility Criteria 2024 Official Details :-

IBPS PO exam eligibility criteria 2024 is a major factor to participate in the recruitment process. Since IBPS PO is the most admired post among the banking jobs in the country. Thus, to apply for the IBPS PO exam, candidates must meet the requirements and need to know the IBPS Eligibility Criteria.

IBPS PO Nationality  :-

A candidate applying for the IBPS PO exam must be either -

  1. a citizen of India or
  2. a subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  3. a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
  4. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from any of the following countries with the intention of permanently settling in India
  • Sri Lanka
  • Pakistan
  • Burma
  • East African countries - Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Uganda, Ethiopia, Zaire, Zambia, Malawi, and Vietnam.

  • The age limit of a minimum of 20 years and maximum of 30 years old  is the eligibility for the IBPS PO exam.
  • This means candidates who are born earlier than 02.08.1994 or later than 01.08.2004 do not pass the IBPS eligibility criteria to apply for IBPS PO 2024 (subject to IBPS PO age relaxation). Both these dates are inclusive of age calculation.

IBPS PO Educational Qualification 2024

(As on 21.08.2024):

  • IBPS PO Degree Requirement: As of 21.08.2024, the candidate must possess a graduation degree in any discipline/stream from a Government of India recognized university or he/she must have any equivalent qualification, recognized by the Central Government to appear in IBPS PO 2024.
  • IBPS PO Educational Qualification: A valid mark sheet or degree certificate must be present with the student certifying that he/she is a graduate as on the day prescribed by IBPS. The date mentioned on the mark sheet/provisional certificate, issued by the University will be considered as the date of passing the eligibility examination.
  • IBPS PO Educational Eligibility Criteria: If any university provides a web-based certificate or the result is posted online then the candidate will be required to submit a relevant original document or a certificate signed by an appropriate college/ university authority, clearly mentioning the date of passing from the Institute, and will have to be presented at the time of the interview, otherwise the eligibility criteria will not be met.
  • IBPS PO Eligibility Percentage: In case any university/college awards CGPA/OGPA, the candidates are required to convert it into a percentage (nearest to 2 decimal places) and mention it in the application form. Percentage fraction in scores will be ignored, i.e. if a student has secured 59.99% marks, it will be treated as less than 60%.

IBPS PO Percentage Calculation under Educational Qualification Criteri

  • The percent marks will be calculated by dividing the total marks that the student has obtained in all the semester (s)/ year (s) by the aggregate maximum marks (in all the subjects, irrespective of honors/ optional/ additional optional subject if any) and then multiplied by 100. 
  • This will be applicable to those Universities also where Class / Grade is decided on the basis of Honours marks only.
  • In cases where CGPA / OGPA is awarded by the Institute, the same should be converted into the percentage and mentioned in the online application. At the time of the interview, the candidate will have to produce a certificate issued by the appropriate authority stating the norms of the University regarding the conversion of grade into percentage and the percentage of marks scored by the candidate in terms of norms.

How many attempts are allowed in IBPS PO?

There is no restriction on the minimum number of attempts for the IBPS PO exam. Also, there is no mention in the official notification of IBPS PO as released by the officials of IBPS. Candidates can appear as many times as they want until they meet the IBPS PO eligibility criteria.

IBPS PO Exam Pattern 2024 For Prelims

The IBPS PO Prelims is the first stage of the IBPS PO 2024. This is the screening round

  • The Prelims Stage of IBPS PO will have three sections of a total duration of 1 Hour.
  • There will be a total of 100 Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Candidates will have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing minimum cut-off marks to be decided by IBPS.
  • An adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by IBPS depending upon requirements will be shortlisted for Online Main Examination.

IBPS PO Exam Pattern 2024 for Mains

This is the 2nd Stage of the IBPS Exam. The candidates who will qualify for the Prelims of IBPS PO Exam will be eligible to appear for the IBPS PO Mains Exam 2024.

  1. There will be four sections for the IBPS PO Mains Exam and an additional section of the English Language which will be taken separately on the same date of the exam.
  2. The IBPS PO Mains Exam will have a total of 200 MCQ’s of a total duration of 3 Hours.
  3. There will be separate timing for each section as it was in the IBPS PO Prelims Exam.
  4. The candidates will have to pass separately in each test/section.

Introduction of Descriptive Test: 25 Marks

IBPS has included the descriptive test of 25 Marks in the PO Mains Exam. The candidates will have to write an essay and a letter of 25 marks. The English Language Paper is to assess the candidates’ writing skills and it is compulsory to pass this paper by securing a minimum cut-off.

IBPS PO Interview Process :-

Candidates who qualify for the Mains Exam are finally called for the Interview Process by IBPS. The Interview Process will constitute of 100 marks and the minimum marks for qualifying this round will be 40% which is reduced to 35% for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD categories.

Penalty for Wrong Answers:-

0.25 marks will be deducted for every question attempted wrong by a candidate in both IBPS PO Preliminary Exam and IBPS PO 2024 Mains Exam. There will be no deduction of marks for a question left blank/unattempted by a candidate.

Final Selection

The final selection of the candidate for the post of Probationary Officer will be made by taking into consideration the cumulative score of Mains Exam and the interview process. The weightage of both these phases of examination will be in the ratio 80:20 respectively. A merit list will be generated after the Interview Process of the IBPS PO 2024 Exam has been conducted. Candidates who make it to the list will be thus offered the joining letter by the Bank of their choice.

IBPS PO In-hand Salary

The initial in-hand salary package offered to an IBPS Probationary Officer is Rs. 52,000 to 55,000 with dearness allowances, special allowances, HRA, and other perks. The IBPS PO Gross Salary is around Rs. 57,000 and after a deduction, the net in hand salary remains around Rs. 52,000 to 55,000.

IBPS PO Salary in India after the Bipartite Settlement

Wage revision for bank employees has been approved to be effective from November 2017 under the 11th bipartite settlement. The revised salary would span five years till 2023 or until revised by IBPS. Nearly 8.8 lakh employees have been benefiting from the approval of the 11th bipartite settlement. There is a provision of timely increment of the pay of the IBPS PO officer.

IBPS PO Dearness Allowance (DA): Dearness Allowance (DA) is given to the employees as a percentage of the basic salary (In January 2016, it was around 39.8% of the basic salary, which has been reduced to 23.87% as on November 2017) This is revised every three months based on the All India Consumer Price Index Data published by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, Government of India. The Bank unions are determined to make it a monthly revision in the impending wage settlement.

IBPS PO Special Allowance (SA): This allowance has been included in the last wage revision for the banks. It is about 7.75% of the basic pay. It came into effect from November 2017.

IBPS PO City Compensatory Allowance (CCA): Based on the type of city, it might be 0%, 3% or 4%.

  • In some banks, the Probation period is divided into phases which vary from bank to bank.

Example: In Indian Bank, the Probation period is divided in;

  1. Ist Phase- 6 months,
  2. IInd Phase-6 months and
  3. IIIrd Phase- 1 year.

The officers under probation period may undergo frequent transfers or deputations.

Once the probation period is completed the officer is confirmed as an Assistant Manager and gets his or her permanent posting.
