IBPS PO is a national-level banking recruitment examination conducted annually by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection to recruit Probationary Officers (PO) in participating Public Sector Banks (PSBs).

IBPS PO Educational Qualification

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification approved by the Central Government. Final-year students can apply, but they must show proof of passing before the deadline.

  • IBPS PO Degree Requirement: As of 21.07.2025, the candidate must possess a graduation degree in any discipline/stream from a Government of India recognized university or he/she must have any equivalent qualification, recognized by the Central Government to appear in IBPS PO 2025.
  • IBPS PO Educational Qualification: A valid mark sheet or degree certificate must be present with the student certifying that he/she is a graduate as on the day prescribed by IBPS. The date mentioned on the mark sheet/provisional certificate, issued by the University will be considered as the date of passing the eligibility examination.
  • IBPS PO Educational Eligibility Criteria: If any university provides a web-based certificate or the result is posted online then the candidate will be required to submit a relevant original document or a certificate signed by an appropriate college/ university authority, clearly mentioning the date of passing from the Institute, and will have to be presented at the time of the interview, otherwise the eligibility criteria will not be met.
  • IBPS PO Eligibility Percentage: In case any university/college awards CGPA/OGPA, the candidates are required to convert it into a percentage (nearest to 2 decimal places) and mention it in the application form. Percentage fraction in scores will be ignored, i.e. if a student has secured 59.99% marks, it will be treated as less than 60%.

IBPS PO Percentage Calculation under Educational Qualification Criteria

  1. Graduation Degree: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
  2. Final Year Students: Those awaiting results must have their degree certificate before the application deadline.
  3. Any fractional value in the percentage calculation will be ignored. For example, 54.99% will be considered less than 55%, and 59.99% will be considered less than 60%.

IBPS PO Nationality

To be eligible for the IBPS PO exam, a candidate must be one of the following:

  1. a citizen of India or
  2. a subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  3. a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
  4. An individual of Indian origin who has migrated from countries such as Pakistan, Myanmar (Burma), Sri Lanka, or from East African nations like Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India is also eligible to apply.

Note: Candidates belonging to other than Indian citizenship must hold a certificate of eligibility as issued by the Government of India.

How many attempts are allowed in IBPS PO?

There is no restriction on the minimum number of attempts for the IBPS PO exam. Also, there is no mention in the official notification of IBPS PO as released by the officials of IBPS. Candidates can appear as many times as they want until they meet the IBPS PO eligibility criteria.
