SSC CHSL 2025 Application Fee

  • The required application fee for SSC CHSL 2025 is Rs. 100/-
  • Exemption: No fee is required to be paid by female, SC, ST, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen candidates.
  • Applications fee should be paid only through SBI either in the form of challan or through SBI Net Banking or any other bank Credit/Debit Card. The Challan form will be generated online.
  • To pay a fee in cash, the candidate should take a printout of challan generated online after the completion of Part-1 registration. Deposit the requisite fee in any branch of SBI and then continue with the Part-2 registration.
  • Those candidates who want to pay online can go directly to part-2 registration after completion of part-1 registration. Candidate must supply registration number and date of birth to continue to Part-2 registration.

What is SSC CHSL

SSC CHSL is a combined competitive test. SSC CHSL full form is Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level Exam. The SSC CHSL exam is organized by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit eligible and talented candidates in different government departments, offices, and ministries for different posts like JSA, PA, LDC, DEO, and SA.

These roles are very important in the Union Government of India and form a major part of the workforce. Different types of responsibilities are assigned under these roles including many simple non-technical roles in different ministries of India.

Candidates having 10+2 from any stream can apply for this exam which is conducted in 2 tiers, each of which tests a specific area of knowledge and skill set of the candidate. The SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam consists of 100 questions that are required to be solved in 1 hour. Tier 2 exam has a specific structure involving 135 questions with candidates required to solve them within 135 minutes. Whereas Module 2 of Section 3 of SSC CHSL Tier 2 consists of Typing/Skill Test.

In SSC CHSL Exam, the post of assistant is segmented into two categories including Postal Assistant (PA) and Sorting Assistant (SA).

  • Postal Assistants are appointed in different post offices that might be located in urban or remote areas. Their role includes collecting mail-bags from the main motor and delivering the same to the customers.

SSC CHSL Syllabus for Skill Test/Typing Test

Skill Test (DEST) Pattern

For DEO Post

  • It is of Qualifying nature.
  • Candidates should possess Data Entry Speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on the computer.
  • They will be given printed matter in English which they have to type on the computer.
  • The test is for 15 minutes and candidates should have a minimum speed of 2000-2200 strokes/key-depressions in order to qualify.

    For DEO Post in C&AG 
  • Candidates should possess Data Entry Speed of 15,000 key depressions per hour on the computer.
  • You will be given printed matter in English which they have to type on the computer.
  • The test is for 15 minutes and candidates should have a minimum speed of 3700-4000 strokes/key-depressions in order to qualify. 

    Typing Test Pattern for LDC/JSA & PA/SA
  • Typing Test will be conducted only in English or Hindi and candidates while applying for the Examination will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Typing Test Medium in the Application Form.
  • Candidates opting for English medium should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute and those opting for Hindi medium should
    have a typing speed of  30 words per minut corresponds to 10500 key depressions per hour and 30 wpm corresponds to 9000 key
    depressions per hour respectively.
  • The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.

Minimum qualifying marks in Tier-I, Section-I, Section-II & Module-I of SectionIII of Tier-II Examination are as follows:

  • The Tier-1 exam consists of multiple-choice questions (objective).
  • Language of question paper will be in both the languages Hindi and English
  • Candidates will be awarded 2 marks for every correct answer and 0.50 marks will get deducted for every incorrect answer.
  • The total score in tier-1 will be 200.

SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

  • Tier-II will be conducted in two sessions - Session –I & Session-II, on same day. Session-I will include conducting of Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III. Session-II will include conducting of Module-II of Section-III.
  • It will be mandatory for the candidates to qualify all the sections of Tier-II.
  • Tier-II will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions, except for Module-II of Section-III. The questions will be set in English and Hindi except for Module-II (i.e. English Language and Comprehension module) in SectionII.
  • There will be negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions
  • Module-I of Section-III i.e. Computer Knowledge Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature.
  • Module-II of Section-III i.e. Skill Test/ Typing Test:
  • Module-II of Section-III will include conducting of Skill Test/ Typing Test in Session-II on the same day.
  • Skill Test/ Typing Test will be of qualifying nature.
  • Errors in the Skill Test will be calculated up to 2 decimal places.

Skill Test for Data Entry Operator

  • Skill Test is mandatory for Data Entry Operators. No candidate is exempted from appearing in the Skill Test.
  • Part A - Skill Test for the post of DEO/ DEO Grade 'A’: ‘Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (Eight Thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer’ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/ key depressions as per the given passage. The duration of the Test will be 15 (Fifteen) minutes and printed matter in English containing about 2000-2200 key-depressions would be given to each candidate who would enter the same in the Computer. The passage to be entered in the Computer may also be displayed on the computer screen.
  • Candidates eligible for scribe as per Para 8.1 and 8.2 will be given compensatory time of 5 minutes. Therefore, duration of Skill Test for such candidates will be 20 minutes.
