Data Entry Skill Test / Computer Proficiency Test
In 2016, a fourth tier was added with two possible exams depending on the positions applied
- Data Entry Speed Test (Skill Test) (DEST): candidates enter data at the rate of 2000 key presses in 15 minutes. This is mainly for positions such as Tax Assistant. (Central Excise & Income Tax)

SSC CGL Tier I is mandatory for all the posts and its marks are added for further process as well. If you do not clear the cut-off of the Tier I Exam then you will not be eligible for Tier II.
- Total number of questions in Tier 1: 100
- Total number of Marks in Tier 1: 200
- SSC CGL tier I will have only multiple-choice questions.
- Each correct answer fetches you 1 mark while an incorrect answer will lead to a penalty of 0.25 mark.
- The duration of the SSC CGL Tier I exam is 1 hour for a 200 mark paper.
SSC CGL Tier 2 Total Marks
- Tier 2 Paper-1 consists of 150 questions.
- Tier 2 Paper-I is worth 450 marks.
- There are 100 questions in Tier 2 Paper II.
- The total number of marks in Tier-II Paper 2 is 200. (It is also same in Paper 3.)
- In Paper-I, there is a penalty of 1 mark for each incorrect answer, while Papers II and III have a deduction of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria
Here are some important points regarding SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2025 which are listed below:
- A minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics in Class 12th is required for the Junior Statistical Office (JSO) post.
- Candidates who are in their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply provided they must produce the passing certificate and mark sheet within the specified date mentioned by the SSC CGL Notifacition.
- Candidates living outside India are also eligible to apply provided they have Indian citizenship.
- The minimum and maximum age limit for General category candidates are 18 years and 32 years, respectively. Reserved category candidates also get an age relaxation, the details of which are mentioned in the article below.
Candidates must also note that a degree obtained through open university or distance education must be recognized by a Distance Education Bureau (DEB). SSC CGL Nationality
Candidates applying for SSC CGL must be a resident of Indian territory with a valid ID proof to substantiate it. However, following candidates are also eligible to apply:
- Tibetan refugee who moved to India before 1962, to settle down permanently in India
- A person of India origin who has moved from Pakistan, Burma, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with intention of settling down permanently in India
- The subject of Nepal or Bhutan
SSC CGL Age limit
Candidates should be between 18 and 32 years of age as of 01-08-2024. However, age relaxation is provided for certain categories. Candidates must be within the age limit of the specific post to be eligible for that post. The present age is calculate from the date of birth mentioned in Class 10 and Class 12 board certificate. The details regarding age limit as per the group and posts are listed below.

SSC CGL Marks Normalisation Formula
The candidates can see below the SSC CGL 2023 Normalisation formula. Normalization is the equalizing of marks for candidates who appeared in different shifts considering the variation in difficulty levels for different shift exams.
